Berkshire County first responders in Great Barrington from the police and fire Departments, and Southern Berkshire Ambulance were dispatched to Lake Mansfield shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, where there was a report of a car submerged in the water.
Officials said that fire personnel arrived at the scene and found a sedan floating approximately 15 feet in the lake with a single elderly man inside the car, behind the wheel.
At the time first responders arrived, the car was slowly taking out water.
Fire crews first deployed an inflatable boat and hooked the car with a wrecker that was brought to the scene. Due to the slow among of water leaking into the car, and because the driver was neither injured nor in distress, they opted to pull the car to shore with a wrecker.
Once the car was at the shore, the man was able to exit on his own ability, and he was treated by paramedics with Southern Berkshire Ambulance and transported to Fairview Hospital for further evaluation.
Officials noted that no gas or oil spilled from the vehicle, and there were no other injuries reported.
